Kangra Valley Railway

The exotic Kangra Valley lying amongst the Dhaula Dhar along with the Shivalik foothills within the state of Himachal Pradesh is the conglomeration of valleys and plateaus from the Himalayas. Renowned for its all-natural elegance, the valley attracts thousands of visitors each and every 12 months. To the north, the peaks rear skyward: very first a minimal chain of ridges adopted by an extensive line averaging amongst seven,000 and 9,000 feet. Directly powering these are massifs rising from thirteen,000 to nicely over 16,000 ft. Then the snows.

The Kangra valley railway is ample evidence of how railway engineers can produce a work in harmony with nature. This they have done without having destroying the grandeur from the mountain, and at the exact same time, revealing towards the traveller, an enchanted fairyland. Like the Russian émigré Roerich’s paintings, the line is exactly where a poet or an artist would have put it. This symphony emphasises the great depth with the gorges by means of which glowing streams tear their impetuous way to the Great Plains of India. Something else would have ruined it. A distinct alignment, a distinct mode of taking the railway by means of the maze of hills and valleys would have spoilt its picture postcard perfectness. This distinctive line has just two tunnels, 1 of that is only 250 toes and also the other 1,000 feet in length.

One of the most picturesque parts with the valley are subjected to the see - the stretch of eighteen miles from Mangwal to Kangra, for example, lies via country unsurpassed for its majestic grandeur with the majestic Ban Ganga gorge along with the deep Kangra chasm as two piece de resistance. As 1 ways Palampur, the everpresent history of snowy chain peaks, 15,000 and 16,000 toes in height is barely ten miles absent. From right here onwards, the line runs parallel for the Dhauladhar variety and a lot nearer to it than any other railways in India that previously comes so near towards the eternal snows.

Rail Tracks
By way of all this portion with the journey, the scenery is pretty rugged, but particularly intriguing particularly along the final few miles to Kangra whose historical Rajput Fort - now in ruins right after the 1905 earthquake - is visible from beyond the 2nd tunnel. The line doesn't pass through Kangra city itself but is separated from it by a gigantic cleft inside the hills in the bottom of which runs the picturesque Ban Ganga River.
